There’s nothing in the world that’s more exciting than making plans for your new baby. We plan on how our new lives will be when we bring the little one home, where we’ll go and how the future will be. One of the first things that most parents plan is bringing the baby home to a lovingly prepared nursery. Before you start decorating the nursery, it is important to remember to keep safety and functionality in mind. For example, there are many products on the market that can be choking hazards. For this reason, don’t use anything with small parts that will be in the baby’s reach. After all, even if your baby is just an eating, pooping and sleeping angel now, in a few months, he/she will start looking around and putting everything in his/her mouth.

Function comes into play throughout the entire nursery. Where will the bed, clothes and toys go? Are you going to have a nursing chair in the baby nursery room? Can the baby nursery décor adapt to the baby’s changes as he/she grows up?

Animals- This is a popular theme for nurseries and children’s rooms because all children love
animals, making animal sounds and pretending to be animals during playtime. The animal motif
can be broken down into three fun categories:
Noahs Arc- This theme has the best of two worlds: ships and animals. The warm colors used
for the ship and the animals bring a sense of warmth to the room as well as a sense of fun and
adventure.
The Jungle Theme- Your little one will love this theme for years to come as he/she dreams of
riding an elephant or swinging from branches with monkeys. A mixture of warm and cool colors
(browns, greens and blues) can be used to create a balanced feel to the mood of the room.
Under the Sea- While this theme is a particularly fun one, the cool colors and swimming fish
will still trigger a very tranquil effect. Imagine the calm that you feel when looking at fish or
dolphins swimming in an aquarium.
Insects- Your child will love the fireflies and butterflies painted on the walls, hanging from the
ceiling and covering his/her bedding. This is a very sweet theme that can be done with just a
couple of brilliant colors.
The Seasons- You can paint each of the four seasons on each of the walls However, you are also
free to decide to just pick one season and apply it to the entire room.
• Create a winter wonderland with snowflakes and igloos.
• Make a garden covered with wild flowers.
• Take a trip to the beach and view the ocean, sandcastles and beach balls.
• Display warm, autumn colored leaves on multiple tree branches.
Far, Far Away- Place your child in a royal castle theme for your prince or princess.

Once you have decided which baby nursery décor theme you want to indulge in, plan out how and where you want to incorporate each feature. Work around your furniture so that it doesn’t conflict with your baby nursery décor. This is especially important if you choose to paint a mural in the nursery becauseyou don’t want to lose detailing. Another word of caution is to not use too many colors in the baby nursery. Keep it simple- three or four- so that the décor doesn’t become overwhelming.

It’s very easy to find accessories such as rugs, lamps, baby blankets and baby towels that can work with your baby nursery décor theme. These baby accessories can blend in with the rest of your baby nursery décor to create a unified look. On the contrary, accessories can be used as accent pieces to stand out, all while complimenting your selected theme. Whatever you decide, be sure to have fun and always remember the love that went into creating the nursery for your baby.
